Balblair 1983

BB83-Bt_Box_medium

Launched to replace the 2nd release of 1975 this was my second Dream Dram at Whisky Birmingham 2015 run by The Birmingham Whisky Club.

Please take into account that these are my personal tasting notes and personal experience. as such you may interpret this whisky very differently from me.

Colour:

Reddish gold.

Nose:

Berries, vanilla, toffee and a hint of banana.

Palate:

Not quite as sweet on the palate as it is on the nose but still pretty sweet. Chocolate, vanilla and honey all coming through strongly with a hint of spice.

Finish:

A long fudge finish with a hint of spice still present.

Overall:

Once again a worthy “Dream Dram”. Sweet without being overpowering – a good desert whisky – either to accompany dessert or as the main dessert itself!

At £205 a bottle though it may not be one you’ll be nipping out to buy in a hurry. If you do get the chance to try a dram though I would highly recommend it.

Notes:

Taken from Balblair website:

Balblair Vintage 1983 1st Release

The first release of Balblair 1983 has a rich golden appearance.

On the nose there are warm aromas of butterscotch, toffee and vanilla that come from the long years of maturation in American oak ex-bourbon barrels. Citrus fruits can also be detected in the aroma adding to the complexity of this exceptional Vintage.

On the palate it is sweet and spicy; fresh fruits and honey combine to create a long, warming and full bodied finish.

Available: 70cl.

Additional information: 46% ABV, natural colour, non chill-filtered.
