The BenRiach 12yr

25_BR_ClassicSpeysides_12

The first of three whiskies sampled as part of the Cheese and Whisky Matching Masterclass at Whisky Birmingham 2015 run by The Birmingham Whisky Club, matched with a Ubriaco or “drunken” cheese.

Please take into account that these are my personal tasting notes and personal experience. as such you may interpret this whisky very differently from me.

Colour:

Pale gold.

Nose:

Fruity, reminiscent of tangerine with a creamy vanilla quality, backed with a hint of wood.

Palate:

Cream, vanilla and spice. A generally sweet whisky with none of the fruit notes picked up in the nose.

Finish:

A medium finish following through with the sweet, vanilla palate.

Overall:

Well matched with the fruity, full flavour of the Ubriaco or “drunken” cheese. Although traditionally this cheese is matched with Prosecco (which it is bathed it while making) it certainly fits well with the BenRiach 12yr.
