Sampled at Whisky Birmingham 2015 run by The Birmingham Whisky Club, the last of three whiskies tasted as part of a Chocolate Matching Class and my last whisky sample of the event.

Please take into account that these are my personal tasting notes and personal experience. as such you may interpret this whisky very differently from me.

Colour:

Dark gold.

Nose:

Mint and chocolate with a fruity edge – orange comes through after a couple of sniffs.

Palate:

Dark chocolate and mint with orange showing through again. This is a thick and sweet whisky.

Finish:

Chocolate orange with a slightly smokey quality to the finish.

Overall:

What I imagine you’d get if After Eights and Terry’s Chocolate Orange had a love child after a night of whisky drinking.

Notes:

Matched with a plain chocolate topped with raspberry crumbs (54% cocoa).

Taken from Glenmorangie website:

Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban

The darkest and most intense whisky in the extra-matured range, Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban has spent 10 years maturing in American white oak casks, before being transferred into specially selected ruby port pipes from the Quintas or wine estates of Portugal. Extra maturation in these port pipes develops Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban into a voluptuous spirit with a complex balance of sweet and dry flavours and an intriguing contrast of smooth and crisp, cooling textures. Non chill-filtered for additional aroma and mouthfeel.

Tasting Notes

Aroma

Aroma: Dark mint chocolate, tangerines and Seville oranges mingle with sandalwood and walnut before giving way to a spicy finish of pepper and nutmeg.

Taste

Taste: Mint chocolate and walnuts envelop the palate like velvet, laying the foundations for rose, Turkish delight and sweet Seville oranges.

Finish

Finish: Long lasting silky aftertaste leaving dark chocolate mints and traces of orange.
