Nikka Whisky From The Barrel

CXVtnSYW8AIbGlq

Please take into account that these are my personal tasting notes and personal experience. as such you may interpret this whisky very differently from me.

Colour:

Gold.

Nose:

Sweet, honey and flowers.

Palate:

Strong alcohol, giving way to honey, caramel and toffee.

Finish:

Long, fruity, with oak and the sweetness still present. A dash of spice at the end.

Overall:

After being blinded by the initial alcohol burn (this is bottled at 51.4% after all) I found this to be a deliciously sweet and even light whisky.

Classic Rock Match:

Following a post by @the_whisky_lady entitled ON THE ROCKS: Match Your Whisky With Rock Classics I’m going to try and match my tastings with a classic rock song.

For this dram I’m going with Elton John – Rocket Man.

Notes:

Taken from Nikka Webstie:

FROM THE BARREL

Alcohol:51.4%

Matured malt whisky and grain whisky are blended and then re-casked (a process known as “marriage”) to create a rich harmony of distinctly different whiskies. “From the Barrel” is bottled directly from re-casked barrels of whisky and features almost the same alcohol percentage. At 51.4% alcohol content, this whisky possesses a distinctive personality characterized by solidity, depth of taste and a richly expanding aroma.

Nice post. I haven’t had Nikka in a while but it’s a tasty dram that would definitely trick many experienced whisky drinkers into thinking it’s a single malt. I think the mix of (near) cask strength and cask maturation is makes this an interesting blended whisky.

    1. Agreed it certainly has a single malt quality to it. I’m intend on trying more Japanese whiskies now… when funds allow that is.
