Flaviar Prime Membership

At the end of last month I finally bit the bullet and signed up to Flaviar Prime Membership. If you’ve not heard of this before then here is a brief overview:

How does it work?

Flaviar allows you to experience the best spirits from all over the world at a fraction of the regular price, helping you discover new drinks and promote a better and healthier way of enjoying drinks. Every month Flaviar members receive a hand-picked spirits box of three premium flavours (Whisky, Rum, Cognac, Gin, Vodka, Grappa, Tequila,…) selected by our experts and industry professionals. We also run special time limited offers for our members from time to time.

STEP 1: Subscribe, get a tasting box and enjoy the carefully curated drinks we deliver every month. Yummy!
STEP 2: Invite your friends and organize Flaviar tasting party. FYI, one tasting box is enough for 3 people.
STEP 3: Organize myBAR. Add and rate drinks you OWN, you have TASTED or really WANT to taste.

I was excited when my first tasting pack arrived. The packaging is neat and gives an impression of quality. Inside were three 45ml tasting samples – certainly enough for two people to taste although I think it would be a push to share between three (maybe that’s me just being greedy though). It also had some extra information around how to taste whisky and some brief notes on the three whiskies themselves.

I’d only tried one of the whiskies before (and thoroughly enjoyed it) so I was looking forward to trying the other two. It took me awhile to actually crack it open though but I managed to cajole a friend into joining me for a few drinks and set about opening it.

It was a great selection, highlighting Scottish, Irish and American whisk(e)y. Below are links to my tasting notes:

  1. Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban (notes from a previous tasting).
  2. Writer’s Tears
  3. Koval Single Barrel Millet Whiskey

I found all three enjoyable and they were all very different whiskies.

For the price (£14.99 first month, £18.99 after that) I’d say it’s about right for what you get. If you want to try a good selection of different whiskies without having to buy a full bottle each time then I recommend this wholeheartedly. You can also skip a month or cancel at no extra cost if money ever becomes an issue.

I’m looking forward to my next pack and may update this when it comes through.

Check out the Flaviar site if you want to know more.
Edit: It turned out that only the first tasting pack was all whisky/whiskey. Each pack after that could contain a mix of spirits. Great for some people but as someone that does whisky tasting specifically it wasn’t much use to me and if you’re after whisky you’re better looking elsewhere for monthly samples.
