Bowmore 12yr

Sampled at Whisky Birmingham 2016 run by The Birmingham Whisky Club, the first of two whiskies tasted as part of the Beginners Masterclass delivered by Jess from The Wellington.

Please take into account that these are my personal tasting notes and personal experience, as such you may interpret this whisky very differently from me.

Bright gold.

Slight peat, wood, hint of sweetness.

Peat, smoke, charcoal but with some subtle sweeter notes showing through.

Sweeter on the finish and more subtle with the peat.

Quite a peaty whisky but with a slight sweetness to balance it out. Could work as a good introduction to the lighter side of peat, although it may still be too strong for some.

The Bowmore Balance

Complex yet perfectly balanced, our 12 Years Old reflects the raw essence of Bowmore – thrashing waves, windswept landscapes and generations of tradition. Bowmore 12 Years Old has received much critical acclaim; the late, great whisky writer Michael Jackson proclaimed it “remarkably long and complex”. We like to think of it as vanilla ice cream at a beach bonfire.

Tasting Notes

On the eye warm amber.

Breathe in subtle lemon and honey, balanced beautifully by Bowmore’s trademark peaty smokiness.

Sip sweet and delicious heather honey and gentle peat smoke.

Savour the long, mellow finish.
