Isle Of Skye 8 Year Old (Ian Macleod)

This was one of three samples my wife bought me for my 28th birthday, all three adding up to 28 years worth of whisky. The samples were from Master of Malt who I must say gave excellent customer service. The samples arrived quickly but unfortunately this particular sample was leaking! A quick phone call by my wife though and they immediately sent out a replacement which again was delivered in no time at all. Can’t fault their service and will definitely be using it again.

Please take into account that these are my personal tasting notes and personal experience, as such you may interpret this whisky very differently from me.

Honey gold.

Sherry straight off the bat, giving way to some smoke and oak with a touch of spice. Coming back to it later I thought there was a faint hint of chocolate in there as well.

Sweet, a mix of peat and sherry with a citrus tang at the end.

Good length, again some smoke and peat but ending with that citrus tang again. Quiet dry at the end.

A good blend. Not too heavy on the peat and the citrus edge tempers the sweetness nicely.

“A Superstar Whisky That Gives Us All Reason To Live!” – Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible

Unusually for a blend, Isle of Skye carries an age statement – 8YO, the recognised age of maturity for many malts, describes the youngest whisky in the blend, though most are much older.

Inspired by that most widely celebrated of Scottish islands, home of the Clan Macleod, Isle of Skye Blended Scotch Whisky contains a high proportion of carefully selected island and Speyside malts.

“A Superstar whisky that gives us all reason to live! A textbook blend and an absolute must for any Islay-philes out there – in fact, a must for everybody! Your tastebuds are beaten up and caressed simultaneously. One of the most enormous yet brilliantly balanced whiskies in the world.” – Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible
