Highland Park Magnus

Please take into account that these are my personal tasting notes and personal experience, as such you may interpret this whisky differently from me.

I was sent this sample by Maltman Mike. If you haven’t already then I highly recommend checking out his videos at Maltman Mike and Friend’s on YouTube. Mike and the rest of the team (me included) produce regular videos including live streams and on location vlogs. Please subscribe to the channel as it really does help.

Colour:

Pale gold.

Nose:

Vanilla, touch of citrus and a touch fruit… maybe.

Palate:

Watery, slight sweet vanilla, slightly nutty, oak and an acrid note, not quite smoke but not completely unpleasant… just mostly unpleasant.

Finish:

Nutty then acrid again.

Notes:

This is another NAS bottling from Highland Park which as far as I can tell is only available in the USA. As you may know from my previous posts and videos about Highland Park I have a bit of a love hate relationship with them. Unfortunately this particular dram falls into the hate section. It’s watery, bland and acrid and leaves a lot to be desired. Hopefully the US whisky drinkers don’t think this is representative of the whole HP range or of Scotch whisky in general. Swing and a miss here for me for sure!
